Why So Many Women Feel Disconnected From Their Body

One thing I’ve noticed through my work is how many women are living almost entirely from the neck up.

Thinking. Managing. Planning. Holding everything together.

Meanwhile, the body is often running in the background — carrying stress, tension, emotional holding, and overwhelm without ever truly being listened to.

Many women don’t even realize how disconnected they’ve become from their bodies until they finally slow down.

And when they do slow down, they may begin to notice:

  • tension in the jaw, belly, hips, or pelvis

  • difficulty fully relaxing

  • shallow breathing

  • emotional numbness

  • feeling “flat,” shut down, or disconnected

  • exhaustion that rest alone doesn’t seem to fix

This disconnect does not happen because women are doing something wrong.

In many ways, it is something women have been conditioned into.

So many women spend years staying productive, staying emotionally available, pushing through stress, taking care of everyone else, and ignoring their own signals.

Over time, the body can learn:

Keep going.

Don’t feel too much.

Don’t slow down.

Hold it together.

But the body can only be overridden for so long before something begins asking for attention.

Sometimes it shows up as tension.

Sometimes exhaustion.

Sometimes emotional overwhelm.

Sometimes difficulty feeling desire, pleasure, or connection.

This is one of the reasons I feel so passionate about my work.

Because so many women don’t need more doing.

They need more space for being.

Space to breathe. To listen. To soften. To feel safe in their bodies again. To slowly rebuild relationship with the parts of themselves they’ve had to quiet, protect, or push through.

Sometimes, reconnection begins in the moment a woman realizes:

“My body has been trying to communicate with me all along.”

That is why I created a free guide called:

How to Recognize What Your Body May Be Trying to Tell You

Inside, I share:

  • common stress and holding patterns I often see in women’s bodies

  • how the breath, belly, pelvis, and nervous system may respond to overwhelm

  • signs your body may be asking for rest, safety, or support

  • gentle practices to begin reconnecting with yourself again
